The conference was located at the Congress Centre at Baden-Baden in Germany. It was organised and sponsored by Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe.

Over 290 participants attended as speakers, sponsors and exhibitors in a well-structured technical programme set up by David Tolfree (VP MANCEF) and Dr Peter Bley (FZK)

The lead and equipment and marketing sponsors listed were: Beohringer Ingelheim, Sandia National Laboratories, MESA+ Institute of Nanotechnology, Applied Technologies,Techologie Region Karlsruhe, Jenoptic Mikrotech GmbH, MST News, Small Times, IVAM Microtechnology Network, Sensors Magazine, Enabling MNT Industry Reviews, NEXUS Microsystems Association, Design for Micro and Nano Manufacture, Industries-und Handelskammer Karlsruhe.

There were over 41 exhibitors occupying booths close to the man hall in the conference centre
The Lady Mayor, Dr Sigrun Lang and Dr Armin Tschermak von Seysenegg, Baden-Wurttemberg of the Ministry of Economic Affairs gave a welcome speech and an opening speech was also given by the Head of the UK Government Business and Innovation Dept.

In 3-day the technical programme there were 25 breakout sessions with 150 speaker presentations covering a variety of topics.

The conference directors were Volker Saile, Norbert Fabricius of FZK and David Tolfree and Carol Steel of MANCEF.
