About MANCEF: Board of Directors

David Tolfree

David TolfreeDavid Tolfree is the founder and Executive Director of Technopreneur Ltd, a consultancy company in the exploitation and promotion of micro and nanotechnology.

He is currently the Europe/Africa Vice-President of MANCEF and is on the Advisory Board of the UK Institute of Nanotechnology and a number of international conferences.

David is a Chartered Physicist, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and has a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Physics.

He is the author of over 120 scientific and technology papers, articles, roadmaps, chapters for books, and conference reports, and has been interviewed on TV and radio programmes on micro-nanotechnology issues.

For the last few years David has been assisting the UK Government's MNT Network programme in building an infrastructure.

In 2004 he originated a proposal to the UK Northwest Development Agency to create a National Microsystems Packaging Centre. This was accepted and authorisation has been given to build the £30 million facility in Liverpool.

He is currently working with a number of UK research centres and companies to help them exploit their MNT services.

MANCEF Contributions

Executive Board - Member, 2003-present. David Tolfree currently serves as MANCEF's Vice-President for Africa/Europe.

MANCEF Bylaws - Helped formulate the Bylaws and the existing GAC structure

Chair of the MANCEF Strategic Alliances Committee and a member of the Marketing and Conference committees

Conferences - Active participant in all COMS conferences since the first one in BANFF in 1994-member of JOC for COMS2000, COMS2002 and COMS2005 & Co-Chair of Programme Committee. Director of COMS2003. Organised and chaired 5 of regional conferences and workshops

Roadmap Development - Contribution to chapters in first and second edition of international roadmaps, currently writing a new Chapter on Economic, Health and Social Impact of Nanotechnology

Revenue Generation - Acquired sponsorships for all COMS conferences. Recently acquired GSK Charter membership and current discussion with three other large companies and organisations

Future MANCEF Goals

  • Establish MANCEF as the organisation that Governments and large companies organisations like UN and World Health and IMF will want to consult. Extend our contacts in the new European area and Africa.
  • Strengthen MANCEF's relationships with its partners and other organisations and build new ones with Governments and international bodies like the UN and WHO
  • Organise with one of our partners a major European Conference on Food and Health
  • Work closely with the GAC to increase MANCEF membership, particularly in Europe, including bringing in more company and Charter members in areas related to new sectors of business
  • Set up a directory of members who can be available to offer their professional services to Governments, international organisations such the UN and the wider community

David says,
