Board of Directors Election 2007
Candidacy Statement: Re-election to MANCEF Vice President Board Position Deputy Secretary – Business Development I have held the position of Vice President Asia Pacific on the MANCEF Executive Board for the past four years. In this role I have worked to grow the links between MANCEF and this region, as well as bringing the perspective of a Government Economic Development agency to the table. My current role as Deputy Secretary Business Development in the Victorian Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development commenced in February 2004. In this role I was responsible for both Science, Technology and Innovation in Victoria and also the Manufacturing and Service industries sectors. In early 2008 I will move to a new role, Deputy Secretary Beyond 2020, charged with the task of developing a picture of our state's future industry structure. I anticipate that micro and nanotechnologies will be very relevant to this picture and anticipate that my work with MANCEF and the connections it brings will be increasingly relevant. During my time on the MANCEF Board I have participated in the majority of Board meetings, and led significant delegations from Australia to the COMS Conferences in Amsterdam, Edmonton, and Florida. I was closely involved in the development and running of the most recent COMS Conference Melbourne, and was responsible for the initiative to encourage delegations to attend and to organise business matching programs for these groups during their stay. I am also a founding member of the Asia Nano Forum, a network of fourteen economies from across Asia Pacific and more recently the Middle East. This network has identified two issues that link closely with MANCEF's charter – building links between industry and academia to enable commercialisation of nanotechnologies, and education and workforce development for future nanotechnology applications. The common interests of these two organisations present an opportunity for collaboration, and I would like to develop this over the coming two years. Regional development agencies across the globe are keen to develop new industries, attract new companies to their region and to encourage international partnerships that lead to economic growth. I see these objectives as complementary with the objectives and activities of MANCEF which also works to bring the best possible mix of technology leaders to its conferences. I would like to work with others in MANCEF to develop a model so that we can build mutually beneficial partnerships with regional agencies hosting or planning to host COMS or COMET meetings. I am keen to continue my work for MANCEF and would appreciate your support in this election process. to the position of Deputy Secretary – Beyond 2020. © MANCEF - Micro And Nanotechnology Commercialization
