Prof. Chennupati Jagadish

Chennupati JagadishProfessor Jagadish was born and educated in India and worked in India and Canada, prior to moving to Australia in 1990.

He is currently a Federation Fellow, Professor and Head of Semiconductor Optoelectronics and Nanotechnology Group in the Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering, Australian National University.

He is also Convenor of the Australian Research Council Nanotechnology Network and serves as President-Elect of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council (NTC).

He is the Chair of the NTC Awards Committee and also Chair of the NTC Nano-Photonics, Nano-Optoelectronics and Nano-Optics Technical Committee.

He serves as Vice-President, Asia-Pacific of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society.

Prof. Jagadish serves on editorial boards of 8 international journals in addition to being a Founding Editor of Online Journal of Nanotechnology and an Associate Editor of the IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology. He served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (2000-2005).

He advises many high tech companies in Australia and overseas and collaborated with scientists from 20 countries.

His research interests include quantum dots, nanowires, quantum dot lasers, quantum dot photodetectors, quantum dot photonic integrated circuits and photonic crystals.

He has published more than 500 research papers (310 journal papers), 3 US patents assigned and 2 pending, co-authored a book, co-edited a book and edited seven conference proceedings. He chaired many international conferences and served on many professional society committees.

He won the 2000 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc (IEEE) Millennium Medal and received Distinguished Lecturer awards from both IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society and IEEE Electron Devices Society.

He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, IEEE, American Physical Society, Optical Society of America, SPIE-the International Society for Optical Engineering, the Electrochemical Society, the Institute of Physics (UK), the Institute of Nanotechnology (UK) and the Australian Institute of Physics.
