TVI TO HOST REGIONAL MICRO AND NANOTECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP, OCTOBER 12-13

Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute (TVI) will host the High Desert Micro and Nanotechnology (MNT) Regional Workshop, Oct. 12 and 13, at the TVI Workforce Training Center near I-25 and Alameda NE.

Organized by the Micro and Nanotechnology Commercialization Education Foundation (MANCEF), the event will focus on enhancing commercial opportunities through partnership and interaction among the business, educational, government and investment communities of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Oklahoma and the Mexican states of Chihuahuaand Nuevo Leon.

As many as 150 delegates from across the region will showcase their efforts, exchange information and perspectives, share economic development and educational models and highlight their regional commercialization efforts.

Speaker highlights include:

  • Henry Eztkowitz, one of the world's foremost researchers and authors on the role of academia, government, and industry in generating economic development.
  • Dean Aslam of Michigan State University will share insights into Micro and Nano educational excellence.
  • Barbara Vigil-Lowder of Bernalillo Public Schools will discuss the sucess of the high school level MicroTechnology Academy Model.
  • Marlene Bourne, one of the foremost market analysts of micro and nanotechnology, will share insights into markets for small technologies.
  • Sandia National Labs will offer expertise from Steve Martin (Homeland Defense), Julian Sanchez (Bi-National Sustainability Lab), Neil Shinn (Center for Integrated Nano Technology), David Williams (Microsystems):
  • Regional and commercial experts and discussions about packaging and border-region development projects and entrepreneurship lessons learned.
  • Robert Hall, TVI director of Electronics and Manufacturing Technology, will discuss the Southwest Center for Microsystems Education Excellence.
  • Jason Paul DeMont of DeMont & Breyer, LLC will speak about intellectual property strategies and issues with Small Technologies.
  • George Skidmore of Zyvex Corporation will speak about commercialization of metrology & structures atthe nano scale.
  • Robert Hockaday of Manhattan Scientifics will share his commercialization experience of small scale power devices.
  • Other scheduled speakers are from the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, University of Texas El Paso, University of Ciudad Juarez, Maricopa County Community College, the New Mexico Economic Development Department, NextGeneration Economy, and the U.S.-Mexico Foundation for Science.

Registration costs $270 for MANCEF members, $300 for non- members and $75 for students.
