Andrew Brawley

Andrew Brawley

Andrew Brawley is the Australian Business Development and Director at Peregrine Semiconductor Australia. Mr. Brawley has been involved in the industry since semiconductor manufacturing was first introduced into Australia 37 years ago.

Candidacy Statement

Peregrine Semiconductor is a leading supplier of high-speed mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs) for wireless and fibre optic communications and the only semiconductor wafer fabrication plant in Australia. Peregrine's product family is based on its patented Ultra Thin Silicon (UTSi®) on sapphire CMOS wafer fabrication process called UltraCMOS™. UltraCMOS™ integrated circuits (IC) have substantial advantages - lower cost, lower power consumption, higher levels of integration, and superior RF performance - in comparison to ICs that are fabricated in competing high performance mixed signal processes.

100% of our product manufactured is exported.

The RF analogue design skills in Australia are very fragmented and commercially have almost no traction. Whilst there are high skills in institutions that support research there is very little in industry. As a result I have been actively involved in a consortium to change this situation.

A proposal has been put forward for the establishment of a Centre of Excellence, facilities and activities which will create companies, skills, exports, wealth and jobs from the enabling technology of wireless-related microelectronics.

The Centre exists in partnership with its university and collaborating partners to contribute to economic growth by development and transfer of industrial technology, industrially-skilled PhDs, intellectual property and its facilities into design services and industrial products based on wireless-related and hardware-oriented ICT technologies.

I believe that this effort by our consortium supports the ideologies of MANCEF.
