Barry Alexia, PhD

Barry Alexia, Ph.D.Dr. Barry Alexia is the Director of Strategy and Business Development in the Advanced Concepts & Technology (ACT) Organization for Raytheon Space & Airborne Systems. Dr. Alexia is responsible for providing Strategy and Business Development leadership, vision and guidance to the Advanced Concepts & Technology organization. As part of the ACT Leadership Team, Dr. Alexia defines and implement's new business pursuits by working with the DoD customer in support of ACT's growth and strategic objectives, assist ACT in managing SAS's CRAD and new bookings forecast.

MANCEF Contributions

Mr. Alexia has co-authored the RF-MEMS chapter of the 2nd Edition MANCEF Micro-Nano Roadmap, as well as reviewed the 1st Edition Roadmap. Barry has also been a participant at the COMS conference series each year since 1998.

Education

Dr. Alexia holds a Ph.D. in Industrial Technology & Engineering from the University of Northern Iowa in MMW Radar and radar cross section (RCS) analysis, a Masters of Science degree from National Defense University (Industrial College of the Armed Forces-ICAF) in Strategic Studies, a Masters of Science degree from Wright State University in Business/Education, a Masters of Science degree from Colorado State University in Mechanical Engineering (robotics) and a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Industrial Technology & Engineering in A/D circuit design.

Career Overview

Dr. Alexia joins Raytheon with more than 25 years of military, engineering, technology development and business development experience. A former officer in the US Marines, his most recent role was with Ardesta, LLC, a private equity company which establishes companies around university IP. While at Ardesta, he was responsible for the development of RF MEMS devices, and the Wireless Strategy and Technology for both domestic and European markets.

Additionally, he supported the co-founding of Sensicast Systems (a distributed wireless network nodal sensor company) which he acted as VP of Business Development.

Other experience includes: managing director of advanced sensor development for Deere & Company both domestically and in Europe, where he was responsible for an agriculture industry first of a low-cost production ready completely autonomous vehicle incorporating D/GPS, LVIT's, FOG's (fiber optic gyros), and an industry leading 3-D W-Band radar for obstacle detection and obstacle avoidance radar. The radar was capable of locating, tracking, and characterizing multiple and diverse targets.

Additional leadership experiences include 15 years at Hughes Aircraft Company in engineering, technology, and business development as well as field office assignments at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Pentagon/Washington, DC.
