Jan Wauters is Technology Attaché and Vice President of Technology Development at Flanders Investment & Trade New York, responsible for stimulating international high-tech business opportunities between the United States and the State of Flanders, Belgium.
He serves as Executive Director of the Flanders Nano Bio Alliance, which he founded in 2006. FNBA is a collaborative to stimulate nano- and biotechnologies in Flanders.
He was co-founder of the Working Group on Nanotechnology of the OECD.
He is senior advisor at the Roger Van Overstraeten Society, a foundation for technology outreach.
Education
He graduated in 1993 as PhD in Sciences at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, and in Business Economics at the Antwerp Management School a few years later.
Professional experience
Jan Wauters was appointed Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Leuven from 1993-1995 and Research Associate at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN, from 1995-1996. He joined IMEC, the world’s largest independent nanotechnology R&D center in 1996 as scientific editor, and held several positions since then, including strategic advisor and director of industry relations. He established the Microelectronics Training Center in 1999 and has set up many strategic initiatives at IMEC.

Jan Wauters has authored over 100 articles in scientific journals. He published many articles in trade magazines on micro- and nanotechnologies.
